Ukrainian gas company says Russia's Gazprom responsible for spoiling talks
KIEV, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's natural gas company Naftogaz said on Sunday that the Russian side should be responsible for damaging negotiations on natural gas prices.
A statement posted by the company on its website said it had met all conditions set Saturday by the Russian side, and it was Gazprom that had delayed the process of negotiations.
"The draft agreement that envisioned a transfer to market prices after the first quarter of 2006 was sent to the Ukrainian side one minute before midnight Moscow time," the website said.
The Russian company on Sunday cut down its natural gas supply to Ukraine over disputes on prices and began reducing pressure in transmission lines to Ukraine.
Last year, Gazprom sold some 25 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine, about a third of that country's consumption.
