RPCC instructor sits on Science Foundation panel
SORRENTO River Parishes Community College biology instructor Sandra Guzman participated in the National Science Foundations recent Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement program.
The program is part of the foundations Directorate for Education and Human Resources, Division of Undergraduate Education held in Arlington, Va.
The panel on which she served included instructors from other community colleges, university professors, representative from government agencies and museum educators.
It speaks well of River Parishes Community College ..., said Chancellor Joe Ben Welch. Decisions made by this panel will influence the way science is taught around the country for years to come. Ms. Guzman is one of those influencers. River Parishes is proud to have her on staff.
The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense.
As a panelist, I was exposed to a window of the latest trends and innovations in science education and how these can be applied in developing courses, Guzeman said. It also gave me a great opportunity to exchange ideas and points of view with other professionals in different areas, levels of experience and background within the field of biology.
