Bucharest, 5 January: The Romanian government approved at its Thursday [5 January] meeting a resolution laying down the requirements for the introduction of petrol and diesel fuel into the market.
According to the act, the Ministry of Economy and Trade (MEC) is nominated as the authority responsible for monitoring the quality of petrol and diesel fuel.
MEC will hand over to the European Commission every year on 30 June a report including the national data on monitoring the fuel quality for the previous calendar year. The first report is to be submitted by 30 June of this year.
The ministry will also inform the European Commission, after Romania's entry to the European Union, about any possible exceptional event like sudden changes in the crude oil supply to the Romanian refineries or sudden changes in the supply of oil products that make the observance of the technical indicators difficult.
The distributors selling petrol and diesel oil have the obligation to inform the MEC, on a quarter-year basis, about the total quantity of petrol and diesel oil they traded.
According to the government's resolution, the distributors should allow the test laboratories, the certification bodies and the independent inspection bodies recognized by MEC to take samples of petrol and diesel fuel as part of the system for monitoring the quality of these products.
