\\\\Pakistan Oil Minister Holds Talks With Algerian Energy Minister

Islamabad, 8 January: The government of Algeria has expressed its keen interest in the field of LNG [liquefied natural gas] export and upstream oil and gas exploration activities in Pakistan.

The interest was shown by the Algerian side during a meeting held in Algeria Sunday [8 January] between Pakistani delegation headed by Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Amanullah Khan Jadoon and Algerian Minister for Energy and Mines Chakib Khelil.

According to a fax message received here from Algeria, various matters were discussed relating to energy especially in the field of transnational gas pipelines, LNG import from Algeria, mining, investment by Algerian exploration and production companies in Pakistan. Representatives of SONATRACH, the state owned oil and gas company were also present on the occasion.

Amanullah Jadoon extended an invitation to the Algerian minister for energy and mines along with technical experts to visit Pakistan and explore the investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector.

The minister is visiting Algeria along with six-member delegation at the invitation of Algerian minister for energy and mines. The visit was also in the framework of the first Pak-Algeria Joint Ministerial Commission in Islamabad, on 19-20 September, 2005. The minister also met with the Algerian Minister for Small And medium Enterprises Mustapha Benbada who was the Co-Chairman of the Pak- Algeria Joint Ministerial Commission and discussed matters of mutual interest particularly relating to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The Algerian minister for energy and mines hosted a dinner in the honour of the visiting minister and the delegation which was also attended by the members of business community and representatives from SONATRACH.
