Students at Hudson's Bay High School are gearing up for the school's 50th anniversary celebration. Activities are scheduled Feb. 3. On that day in 1956, students first set foot in the school.

Today's students are planning a spirit week leading up to the anniversary. Alumni are invited to an open house and tours of the building from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

A Winter Homecoming basketball game in the gymnasium still the county's largest starts at 7:30 p.m. A special halftime celebration is planned.

U.S. House provides science help

A new resource for science teachers and their students is available through the U.S. House of Representatives Science Committee Web site.

A press release from Science Committee member Rep. Brian Baird, D- Vancouver, said science education must have greater emphasis in American school classrooms, so U.S. industries and workers can compete with those in Europe and Asia.

The Web site is accessible through Baird's site, www.house.gov/ baird. Click on Resources, and choose Science Education from the menu.

The site has links to lesson plans and practical education ideas for K-12 teachers. Students can e-mail science questions to volunteer scientists. Older students can find math and science- related internships on the site.
