Jan. 18--INFO: 367-1525 or 481-1561. Looking for a way to get off the couch and get fit while helping those who are less fortunate? Then try your hand at disc golf during the second annual Super Ice Bowl at the Seth Burton Memorial Disc Golf Course in Fairmont. The West Virginia Disc Golf Association is hosting the tournament at 10 a.m. Feb. 4 to benefit The Soup Opera, which provides food, hygiene products, over thecounter-medications, baby food, formula, diapers, school supplies and laundry facilities to less fortunate residents in Fairmont. Phillip Burton, treasurer of the W.Va. Disc Golf Association, said the game is played much like traditional golf, but instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee. "It's something to do in the winter and to get out, have a little fun and raise some money for charity," he said. "If you can throw a Frisbee, you can play." Burton, who has played for several years, said last year's event raised $650 for The Soup Opera. "Last year, we had a snow, ice and hard rain during the day, and really, it added to the spirit of it," he said. "It was a blast." Burton said players of all levels are encouraged to brave the elements and play in one of three divisions -- advanced, intermediate and novice. Prizes will be awarded for each division. One round of 20 "holes" will be played, and Book n' Bean, located in Fairmont, will have hot drinks and pastries for sale to keep players and spectators warm. Also, a free chili lunch will be served after the round, which will be held rain, snow or shine. The entry fee is $25 and the first 50 people to register will receive an official fullcolor Ice Bowl 2006 golf disc and mini disc. "The sport is a wonderful time," Burton said. "If there's a foot of snow we will show up and play."
