The current spell of cold weather has increase gas consumption in the country by 50 per cent. The managing-director of the Iranian Gas Company, while calling on the people to economize in gas consumption, said: We are experiencing a drop in gas pressure along the pipelines in some regions, and we have therefore increased the supply of kerosene to those regions.

Mr Kasra’izadeh added: At present, all the gas pumping stations are working in full capacity and our company workers are on the alert to deal with any possible problem.

He pointed out: Gas supply to some [state owned] industries such as power stations, oil refineries and steel factories has been cut down; and these industrial units have been supplied with alternative fuel so that more gas can be diverted to domestic consumers.
