Four trapped miners in central China colliery confirmed dead
CHANGSHA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers recovered Thursday the bodies of the four miners, who were trapped in a coal mine flooding in central China's Hunan Province last Wednesday, according to local government.
"We have told the sad news to the miners' families and the compensation work has begun," said Huang Jianguang, deputy director of the Changsha station of Hunan Provincial Administration of Coal- Mine Safety.
The accident took place on Jan. 11 when 33 miners were working at the Tangshi Colliery in Zhuzhou County. Twenty-nine of them managed to escape while the four miners got trapped.
Huge amount of silted mud and cinder hampered the rescue efforts, said Huang.
Cause of the accident is under investigation.
