KYIV. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Ukraine has increased its consumption of natural gas by 70 million cubic meters a day and, under agreement with Russia's Gazprom, has reduced gas transit to Western Europe by 60 million cubic meters, Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov has announced.
Plachkov told a Friday Cabinet meeting that Ukraine boosted total gas consumption from 328 million cubic meters to 400 million and reduced Russian gas transit from 385 million cubic meters to 325.4 million.
Plachkov said that the reduction in transit is compensated by deliveries of gas from Gazprom's stocks in Western Europe.
Quoting early estimates, Plachkov said that Ukraine's gas balance in January will be guaranteed in full.
