Local Food Banks Ring in the New Year With Fuller Pantries Thanks to the Steak N Shake Company

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Steak n Shake Company today announced it will be donating 396,864 STEAKBURGER(TM) patties to local food banks through its third-annual partnership with America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network. Steak n Shake donated one STEAKBURGER patty to America's Second Harvest for each qualifying TAKHOMACARD purchase.

From November 1 through December 24, the casual dining restaurant chain donated one STEAKBURGER patty to local America's Second Harvest Member food banks for every $5 in TAKHOMACARD gift card sales.
Steak n Shake has worked with America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization since 2002, donating patties to individual food banks in the communities they serve. The America's Second Harvest Network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually, supporting approximately 50,000 feeding agencies nationwide. In 2005, Steak n Shake donated 402,304 patties to Americans in need through the holiday gift card program; these patties were distributed directly to local families through 59 local food banks in 18 different states.
For the promotion, Steak n Shake offered two new designs of TAKHOMACARD gift cards. The cards are a quick and easy way of giving friends and family the gift of STEAKBURGER sandwiches, real-milk Milk Shakes, or any other item available on the menu. The Steak n Shake gift cards are easy, affordable options to have on-hand for babysitters, postal carriers, teachers, neighbors, nieces/nephews, co-workers or friends. The cards are available at all Steak n Shake restaurants, which are located in 20 states and can be redeemed for any menu item at any of its more than 450 locations.
During 2005, Steak n Shake also donated 750,000 STEAKBURGER patties to the America's Second Harvest Network for distribution to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
