A-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted Iraqi Oil Minister Ibrahim Bahir al-’Ouloum who said in early December 2005 that the Ministry intends to increase daily oil production in 2006 to 2.6 million barrels. The paper noted that daily oil production in December 2005 reached 2.1 million barrels, and that daily oil exports from Iraq reached 1.2 million barrels in November 2005. Daily local oil demands came to 400,000 to 500,000 barrels during this period. The Iraqi Minister made these statements during his meeting with representatives of the Japanese Oil Ministry.
