FSC&Amp;TC Culinary Team Takes Third in Competition

Jan. 25–The Fairmont State Community & Technical College Culinary Competition Team placed third in a two-part competition recently at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Teays Valley near Charleston. The four-person team consisted of students Joann Golden, Donald Shaffer, Caleb Taylor and Brian Wallace. They were coached by Brian Floyd, CEC, coordinator of Fairmont State Culinary, and Jay Mahoney, CEC, chefinstructor and executive chef for Aladdin Foodservices. Phase I of the competition involved precision knife skills and butchering a fish and a chicken. During Phase II, the students produced a four-course meal for four people in 75 minutes. The team was judged by two Certified Executive Chefs and Certified Master Chef Harmut Handke, an internationally-recognized culinary legend and winner of multiple national and international competitions. Carver Career & Technical School won the culinary competition and will represent West Virginia March 15-20 at the American Culinary Federation regional competition in Toronto, Canada.
