Excerpt from report by Russian news agency ITAR-TASS

Moscow, 26 January: Russia's Audit Chamber has not uncovered any violations during the construction by Russia of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran.

"There are no problems from the Russian side in the area of financing the construction of the nuclear power plant in Bushehr," the chairman of the Audit Chamber, Sergey Stepashin, announced at a news conference today.

According to Prime-TASS, he said that auditors of the Audit Chamber exchanged opinions and information about the construction of the nuclear power plan in Bushehr with specialists from Iran. "We received exhaustive information on this issue," Stepashin added.

"However, the Audit Chamber does not intend to make public the result of the audit of the construction of the atomic power plant in Bushehr," Stepashin said when answering a question from ITAR-TASS. At the same time he said that the former and current leaders of Rosatom [Federal Atomic Energy Agency], Aleksandr Rumyantsev and Sergey Kiriyenko, "are aware" of the results of the audit.

"The issue of [former Atomic Energy Minister Yevgeniy] Adamov has been taken off the agenda. [Negative] consequences of his activities have been prevented," the head of the Audit Chamber said. According to him, the Russian company that failed to credit the construction has been removed from the process.

Last summer, after returning from Iran, Stepashin said that his department had questions for the Atomstroyeksport [Atomic Construction Export] organization in connection with the misallocation of funds. The Iranians also had complaints about Atomstroyeksport and the former head of the Atomic Energy Ministry, Yevgeniy Adamov. [Passage omitted]
