News Advisory:
President Bush is expected to call for greater U.S. energy independence in his State of the Union address tonight, and he may discuss alternative transportation technologies such as plug- in hybrid vehicles. Following the president's speech, Alliance to Save Energy President Kateri Callahan will be available to comment on energy- and energy efficiency-related topics.
The Alliance is part of the new Plug-in Partners campaign ( http:/ /www.pluginpartners.org ), a national grassroots initiative to demonstrate to automakers that a market exists today for flexible- fuel Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
We also note that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is a partner in the Alliance's Power is in Your Hands campaign ( http:// www.powerisinyourhands.org ), which brings together business, industry, utilities, trade associations, federal agencies, and community groups in an effort to reduce energy use and, thereby, lower energy prices. The Alliance and DOE also are partners on the Powerful $avings campaign ( http://www.ase.org/powerfulsavings ) to help consumers lower their energy bills at home and on the road and help the nation lower its overall energy use.
