Bio-fuel power plant given go-ahead
BUDAPEST, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Preparations are underway for building a bio-fuel electricity power plant in Tatabanya, a town 60 km west of Budapest, the Hungarian capital, local media reported on Friday.
The 5-million-euro investment will see the establishment of a bio- gas-powered plant capable of putting out electric power of 2 to 3 megawatts.
Local authorities recently approved the building of the plant that is capable of converting organic household rubbish into fuel to power the plant's generators.
The Tatabanya installation is the first of eight such power plants planned for nationwide use by the general designer Duna Fejlesztesi Kft. Construction work will begin in March.
Hungary surpasses Germany in terms of using recycled or alternative fuels, with 3.6 percent of its total energy output as against Germany' s 1.8 percent. But Hungary is far behind France and Austria which use alternative fuels for over 25.2 percent of its total energy output. .
