Household Poultry Ban Gazetted

According to news.gov.hk: Legislative amendments to the Public Health (Animals& Birds) (Licensing of Livestock Keeping) Regulation and the Waste Disposal Ordinance were gazetted today,banning backyard poultry-keepingfrom February 13. The Health, Welfare & Food Bureausaid patrol teams will be formed to ensure effective enforcement of the new law. Households keeping backyard poultry are urged to dispose of their birds as soon as possible. For assistance they can call 1823. Unauthorised keeping of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons and quails will be an offence warranting fines of up to $100,000. The banwill protect public health and reduce the risk of an avian influenza outbreak in Hong Kong.
