Santa Cruz Joins the Green Waste Revolution By Selecting Products Made From Cereplast Bio-Based Resins
Posted on: Monday, 13 February 2006, 09:00 CST
Cereplast, Inc., (OTCBB:CERP) the producer of proprietary bio-based resins which are used as substitutes for petroleum-based plastics, announced today that serviceware and liners made from Cereplast resins are being used in the launch of a pilot green waste disposal program in Santa Cruz, California. This is another in a series of progressive waste management projects using products made from Cereplast bio-based resins.
More than 30 establishments in the Santa Cruz area are participating in the program that separates compostable material from the trash stream and sends it to a municipal composting facility, rather than into the landfill. The participating establishments include restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and residential care facilities.
"The green waste program is a big success," stated Dan DeGrassi of the Santa Cruz Dept. of Public Works. "In the first month over 50 tons have been collected through the source separated food waste program, including Cereplast's products."
Mr. DeGrassi is very pleased with the first results utilizing Cereplast products and expects to multiply the organics recycling by several times. "This is a true success for the Public Works of Santa Cruz County," Dan commented.
Russell Wegner, Cereplast's Vice President of Development, said, "We are excited to participate in launching another municipal area into a Green Waste Program utilizing Cereplast products. Cereplast bio-based plastic resins can be shaped into a variety of products including utensils, containers, film and other packaging. Products made from Cereplast bio-based resins are fully biodegradable and compostable. As this Green Waste revolution continues across the country, Cereplast's products will be the go-to choice for these programs."
