Malaysia targets at 21 pct growth in plastic product exports

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will strive to make its export value of plastic products reach 8 billion ringgit (2.1 billion U.S. dollars) this year, an increase of 21.2 percent from last year.

The country believed that it can meet the target due to strong demand for plastic parts, components and packaging materials on the global market, Malaysian Plastic Manufacturer Association said here on Wednesday.

Much of the growth will be fueled by new markets, including Argentina and Brazil, as well as the expanding existing ones, said the association, which comprises about 1,000 plastic product manufacturers in the country.

Apart from promoting and marketing their products, the association said that it would assist Malaysian plastic product manufacturers to acquire new technology and develop more quality and new products through new materials to beef up their competitiveness on the market.

Malaysia exported 6.6 billion ringgit (1.6 billion U.S. dollars) worth of plastic products last year, mainly plastic bags, bottles, containers, films, sheets and other plastic articles.
