DCNR Appoints New Executive Director To Oversee Wild Resource Conservation Program

Posted on: Tuesday, 20 January 2004, 06:00 CST

HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Michael DiBerardinis today announced the appointment of Dr. Ronald A. Stanley of Bedford County as executive director of the Wild Resource Conservation Program.

The administrative change is in line with DCNR's wide-ranging efforts to expand the Wild Resource Conservation Program through a more clearly defined mission, seek an expanded funding base and develop more effective operating criteria, said Secretary DiBerardinis.

"This position requires both an extensive scientific background and fiscal management skills that together can propel the WRCP into new frontiers," Secretary DiBerardinis said. "The program must emerge as the champion of habitat, non-game specie, and native wild plants. Dr. Stanley will be able to guide it to that level with his keen fiscal development skills and extensive knowledge of grants management."

Stanley leaves a position with the state Department of Environmental Protection where he directed DEP's Grants Center, and managed more than $40 million annually in Growing Greener grants and other funds. Stanley replaces Frank Felbaum, who now works in DCNR's Office of Education, Communication and Partnerships.

Dr. Stanley's professional career includes 10 years of water resource work with the Tennessee Valley Authority; 20 years with the Environmental Protection Agency, during which he was honored for management of research and annual contracts totaling more than $25 million a year, as well as implementation of the Endangered Species Act; and two years environmental and agricultural work in African with the Agency for International Development. Stanley received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas, and a Ph.D. in ecological plant physiology from Duke University.
