Girl Scouts Pull Out All Stops for Cookie Sales Today

Posted on: Friday, 24 February 2006, 12:00 CST

By Pam M. Smith, The Sun, Yuma, Ariz.

Feb. 24--Talk about product branding. When they begin selling at three locations in Yuma this afternoon, area Girl Scouts will be dressed to look like, well, Girl Scout cookies. The cookie costumes represent a new look in the Scouts' annual sales pitch for the cookies, says Kristine Piper-Fangman, member services executive for Yuma and La Paz counties in the Arizona Cactus-Pine Council Girl Scouts. Sales booths will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Wal-Mart at 2900 S. Pacific Avenue, and at the two Albertson's, 252 W. 32nd St. and 2378 W. 24th St. The booths are intended to serve customers who haven't already ordered cookies from individual Scouts. The cookie selections have colorful names -- Samoas, Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, All Abouts, Trefoils, Tagalongs, Lemon Coolers and Cafe cookies, the newest choice. Cookies are $3 per box. Proceeds of the cookie sales are used to support Girl Scout projects in the Yuma area. Booths will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Sam's Club in the Yuma Palms Regional Shopping Center. The girls again will be in costume. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the "cookie" Scouts will be at the Media Hoops Event at Yuma High School, 400 W. 6th St., and then will be at Sam's Club from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday. For details on future sales booths, times and locations, contact the Girl Scout office at 782-9193.
