EPA Names Bosgraaf Homes Energy Star(R) 2006 Partner of the Year

Posted on: Wednesday, 1 March 2006, 09:00 CST

HOLLAND, Mich., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Bosgraaf Homes as an ENERGY STAR 2006 Partner of the Year for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by building energy-efficient homes. Bosgraaf Homes' accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 2006.

Bosgraaf Homes, an ENERGY STAR partner since 1999, is being honored for building homes that meet EPA's strict guidelines for energy-efficiency. ENERGY STAR qualified new homes use substantially less energy for heating, cooling, and water heating. Homeowners in Michigan can save more than $500 per year on their energy bills in an ENERGY STAR home.

"Every new home we have built since 1999 has met ENERGY STAR standards," said Mike Bosgraaf, President of Bosgraaf Homes. "This summer, we will begin work on our 1,000th ENERGY STAR home, and we believe we are helping make a difference. We take great pride in the work we have accomplished through our partnership with ENERGY STAR."

The Partner of the Year Award is given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contribution to the construction of energy-efficient homes. Homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR qualification benefit the environment by providing homeowners with quiet and comfortable homes that save money on utility bills. Winners are selected from over 8,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

Last year alone, with the help of ENERGY STAR, Americans saved $12 billion on their energy bills and enough peak energy to power 28 million homes. Through those savings they avoided greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of more than 23 million vehicles.

"ENERGY STAR homes come with important benefits for homeowners and help protect our environment," said Kathleen Hogan, director of EPA's Climate Protection Partnerships Division. "We applaud the efforts of our partners such as Bosgraaf Homes to create a new generation of homes that offer efficiency, comfort, and durability."
