By Journal Record Staff

Lafarge North America's Tulsa Cement Plant received international recognition for contributions to wildlife habitat conservation at the Wildlife Habitat Council's 17th annual symposium.

Lafarge demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship and increasing native biodiversity by achieving habitat certification at the Tulsa plant.

The Tulsa Cement Plant is a limestone quarry and manufacturing facility on 1,300 acres. About 130 acres are available for wildlife habitat enhancement projects, including several ponds, wetlands and grasslands.

The Tulsa Cement Environmentally Assessing and Renewing The Habitat team, know as Earth, implements habitat enhancement projects on 19 acres. The site's shared border with the Redbud Valley Nature Preserve adds further value to the team's efforts to increase wildlife habitat on-site.

The Tulsa Cement Plant was one of 143 sites recognized at the 2005 Symposium for creating a habitat program.
