Oil Imports to Country

A-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported on operations in the oil sector in Iraq as of the end of 2005. Iraq imports oil from neighboring countries, mainly Kuwait, Turkey, and Iran, in order to supply local demand. The rate of production of local refineries comes to 40%. About one million oil containers made in 1990 or after will be imported to Iraq after the ending of the war, a fact which caused an increase in oil demand. The paper noted that that the Iraqi government has prepared a plan to increase the number of refineries.
