By Kyodo News International, Tokyo

Mar. 7--TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it has received an order from a Thai state-owned power utility for major components of a 750-megawatt gas turbine combined-cycle power plant burning natural gas.

The environmentally friendly power plant combines gas and steam turbines to generate electricity more efficiently while emitting less carbon dioxide.

Mitsubishi will provide EGAT Plc with two gas turbines, one steam turbine and two heat recovery steam generators through trading company Mitsubishi Corp. for a power plant site some 15 kilometers southwest of Bangkok.

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will manufacture three more generators for the power plant and Thailand's Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Plc will undertake installation work, Mitsubishi Heavy said. The plant is scheduled to become operational in October 2008.

Mitsubishi Heavy said it has delivered a number of power plants to Thailand, accounting for 40 percent of Thai power generation.
