County Beverage Board Fines 3 Liquor Outlets

Mar. 8--Three Howard County liquor outlets have been fined a total of $1,900 by the county's Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board.

The owners of Normandy Wine and Spirits on U.S. 40 got the heaviest penalty - a $900 fine for serving an underage customer sent into the store Nov. 9, 2005, by county police Detective Martin Johnson.

The 17-year-old customer bought a six-pack of hard lemonade and a 24-ounce bottle of beer without being asked for identification.

An 18-year-old customer of Cherry Tree Spirit Shop bought two 30-pack cases of beer from the store near Fulton on Nov. 11. County police Officer Mark Herron watched as the youth emerged with the brew, and then stopped his vehicle on U.S. 29. The outlet was fined $500.

Owners of the Judge's Bench in Ellicott City also were fined $500 by the board after Johnson saw a patron drinking a beer after the 2 a.m. closing time Nov. 16, though the barmaid insisted she served the customer before closing time and that he never drank from the bottle after 2 a.m.

The decisions were signed Feb. 27.
