Mar. 8--PERRY -- The Perry City Council voted Tuesday to have police chief George Potter serve as public safety director, effective immediately.
In the position, Potter will lead the city's police and fire departments.
Potter has been police chief for the past 10 years, managing a staff of more than 40 employees. City officials said Potter has done a good job and that it makes sense to for him to lead both the police and fire departments.
