Murmansk, 9 March: The No 3 power unit of the Kola nuclear power plant has been stopped for scheduled maintenance, a source at the plant told ITAR-TASS today. The maintenance will last 40 days, meanwhile the three remaining power units of the plant will provide power supply for Murmansk Region and neighbouring Karelia, the source said.
"Such shutdowns are used not only for equipment maintenance but also for installing updated and more reliable nuclear and radiation protection systems," the source said.
Radiation level around the plant is within norm and does not exceed natural values, the plant's environmental service reported.
The plant's load is 1,320 MW, which totally corresponds to the operational chart of the Kola energy system.
