Bellefonte Star Receiver Heading to Robert Morris

Mar. 12--Nate Carson had opportunities to play college football at the Division I-A level. When he would see the field, however, was unclear.

So in the end, the chance to start as a freshman was one of the overwhelming factors in the former Bellefonte standout's decision to sign a letter of intent to attend Robert Morris, a Division I-AA school in Pittsburgh.

"It was nice, better than anything else I'd went to," Carson said when describing his visit a few weeks ago. "They recruited me heavy."

Carson passed up preferred walk-on status at West Virginia and Temple for the partial scholarship Robert Morris offered him.

Carson said the Robert Morris coaches indicated to him that he could start immediately at the Colonials' return specialist. He could also see time at wide receiver or defensive back.

"As long as I work hard and put the effort in, I think I can excel pretty well," Carson said. "Like every other kid, I'm looking to go big. I'll work as hard as I can."

As a three-year starter for the Red Raiders, Carson was a threat to score each time he touched the ball. He will leave Bellefone as the career leader in points (217), receiving touchdowns (23) and interceptions (19). His 35 total touchdowns are tied with Jerry Shivery for the school record.

As a senior, he earned first team honors at wide receiver and defensive back in the Seven Mountains Division of the Mountain Athletic Football Conference, leading Bellefonte with 22 receptions for 475 yards.

Carson joins former Bald Eagle Area quarterback Camdin Crouse in the Colonials' recruiting class.
