Mar. 14--BELLEFONTE -- State Route 150 between Mill Street and Holmes Avenue, closed while fire crews extinguished a fire inside a tractor-trailer, reopened around 12:30 p.m.
The tractor trailer was hauling 22,000 pounds of zinc oxide and brass dust for Davidson Brothers of Bellefonte when a fire ignited inside one or more containers at 8:49 a.m.
The driver pulled off of Route 150 near the Uni-Mart in Bellefonte, and the fire was quickly doused by firefighters. A Penn State Haz-Mat team was called to the scene as a precaution, but Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver said there is no hazardous materials threat.
The material inside the containers in the tractor trailer is not flammable, Weaver said -- it was the container itself that caught on fire.
"There is no Haz-Mat situation, there is no public threat," Weaver said.
