Mar. 15--A quick storm that dropped one to two inches of snow in Centre County overnight also left treacherous, icy roads in its wake.
State Police at Philipsburg said U.S. Route 322 in the Skytop area was closed for a time by Patton Township police this morning. No information was immediately available on the reason for the closing.
Traffic was reported to be at a standstill over Skytop shortly before 9 a.m.
Both state police and Patton Township police said roads throughout the region are treacherous this morning.
"All the roads were terrible this morning, they were just covered with ice," said a trooper at the Philipsburg barracks.
The ice and snow contributed to several accidents overnight.
No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash on state Route 80 in Bradford Township, Clearfield County, about 3:40 a.m. today. State police reported that Bahadur Singh, 35, of Stockton, Calif., lost control of his truck on the icy road as he was traveling eastbound on the highway. Both he and a passenger were wearing seat belts. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
Barrie Overton, 34, of Bellefonte also escaped injury when he lost control of his 2003 Chevy Tracker as he was traveling west on a snow-covered U.S. Route 322 in Rush Township about 11:15 last night. His vehicle was severely damaged when it skidded off the berm, struck a rock embankment and rolled over. Overton was wearing his seat belt.
