China, Australia positive about cooperating in peaceful use of nuclear energy, says spokesman
BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China and Australia are keen to cooperate with each other in the peaceful use of nuclear energy on the basis of equality and reciprocity, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said here Tuesday.
Qin said that Sino-Australian cooperation is in the interests of both sides and conducive to furthering friendly, cooperative bilateral relations.
Qin, in response to a question at a regular press briefing on the reported Sino-Australian negotiations on uranium trade that concluded on Monday, said both sides had reiterated that they will support international efforts for nuclear non-proliferation.
The two sides will cooperate in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in order to fulfil their international obligations, said the spokesman.
As to whether the two sides will sign a uranium trade agreement, Qin said he had not received any information yet.
