Whole Foods Market(R) Completes Rebuilding of New Orleans Stores With Grand Re-Opening of Veterans/Metairie Location on March 15th

Posted on: Wednesday, 15 March 2006, 12:00 CST

AUSTIN, Texas, March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Whole Foods Market(R) , the world's leading natural and organic foods supermarket, is re-opening its 50,000-square-foot Veterans store in Metairie today. The store -- located at 3420 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie -- will once again provide area residents with the finest selection of seafood, meats, cheese, produce, prepared foods and freshly-baked goods.

"We are pleased to be back in full swing at the Veterans store," said Store Team Leader Amy Archinal. "We had become an integral part of Jefferson Parish before the disruption of the storm. Whole Foods Market is committed to serving our shoppers for years to come. The community has told us they need us now more than ever, especially our prepared foods selections. We welcome everyone back to the store with open arms."

Five percent of the re-opening day sales will be donated to The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation to aid in the wetland recovery effort. Whole Foods Market will also continue its support for other local organizations through participation in community fundraisers and donations.

Whole Foods Market re-opened approximately 10,000 square feet of the Veterans store in Metairie on November 1, 2005, and has since expanded to 30,000 square feet. Essentially, the Metairie location had everything available except the behind-the-counter service.

The Metairie store will welcome back Team Members and shoppers today with a food tasting from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and music from pedal steel player Gary Miles from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

In addition to offering the largest selection of organic and natural foods in the state, the store once again caters to the region's rich Cajun and Creole culinary traditions. It features one of the largest selections of fresh seafood in the city, an extensive array of local products and features, including a made-to-order po'boy station, while maintaining the company's strict commitment to carrying products free of artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings, preservatives and hydrogenated oils.

In addition to its emphasis on seafood -- through 34-feet of fresh offerings, an in-house smoker and a full-service, sit-down seafood restaurant -- the Metairie store satisfies local tastes by making soups a focal point for the store. Soup stations in the seafood, meat and prepared foods departments serve everything from cioppino to chili to gumbo.

Each department of the store is marked by variety, with an amazing selection of artisanal cheeses plus a cheese tasting bar; house-smoked meats and seafood; in-house handmade sausages; cut-to-order charcuterie; an olive bar with more than 24 types; hundreds of imported and domestic wines; over 200 items in bulk; and the wide assortment of hand-stacked organic fruits and vegetables that Whole Foods Market is known for throughout the U.S.
