East End Church Hosts SHARE Food Program

The East End of Charleston serves as a home for a food program called SHARE. The program includes fresh meats, fruits and vegetables that are sold at a very low cost to help individuals and families meet their food budget each month.

The program is handled by the Asbury United Methodist Church at the corner of Elizabeth and Jackson streets. Church members and other East Enders have participated in the program for almost a year and have been enjoying monthly food budget cuts because of their participation.

To participate in the SHARE program, call the church at 342-7811 and find out what food packages are available for the month. Bring a cardboard box with you to the church to take the food home.

This month, one menu includes pork chops, fish, turkey, chicken, pizzas, cherry pie, stuffing, potatoes and fruits and vegetables. The total cost for all this food is $18.90.

The food is high-quality and inexpensive, because the trucking, ordering and distribution are all done by volunteers.

The church accepts cash and money orders (made out to SHARE), but no checks.

Pick-ups must be made at the church at the end of the month; there are no deliveries. Orders must be placed at the beginning of the month.

Call the church at 342-7811 to receive more information and save on your food budget for this month.
