BR recycling drop-off set for nonhazardous material
East Baton Rouge Parish's monthly recycling drop-off will be from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Louisiana Department of Insurance Receivership Office parking lot, 6945 Florida Blvd.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Recycling Office, The Recycling Foundation and ExxonMobil ExC!TE hold the event for apartment dwellers, small businesses and others who cannot participate in the curbside recycling collection program.
Materials should be sorted into two groups:
Paper: newspapers, envelopes, catalogs and phone books.
Rigid items: beverage cans, milk cartons, glass and food containers.
Hazardous materials and polystyrene products will not be accepted.
Participants drop off an average of 5 tons of recyclable materials each month, said Susan Hamilton, the city-parish's recycling director.
Also at the event, Come and Help, the Lions Club and the Louisiana School for the Deaf will collect medical supplies, exercise equipment, eyeglasses and hearing aids.
The event will be canceled if there's bad weather.
