The National Forest is keen on a proposal that could lead to hundreds of trees being planted along a section of theA38 between Birmingham and the forest.
The 40km-long northern stretch of the road could receive a makeover if one of three bidders for the 2.2bn contract to manage the city's road network wins.
Atkins EDF Energy Consortium has commissioned a study to see how to best mark the route. One of the options would be to undertake extensive plantings over 25 years.
National Forest representative Carol Rowntree Jones said the native tree plantings would be welcomed: "When the A38 is in the forest boundary we're obviously interested to add them to the number of trees in the forest. Also, it's good for habitation creation, screening and air cleaning."
