Colliery flooding traps 28 miners in North China province
TAIYUAN, March 18 (Xinhua) — A flood occurred in Fanjiashan coal mine in Luliang City of North China’s Shanxi Province Saturday, trapping 28 miners working underground.
The accident happened at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday when 58 miners were working in the pit, however, 30 of them managed to escape, according to the provincial work safety watchdog.
Rescuers have not yet ascertained the condition of the flooded mine and the rescue work is still going on.
The mine, owned by the Zhaoxian Township in Luliang with an approved annual production capacity of 150,000 tons, was operating with an overdue safety production license, as discovered by investigators led by provincial officials.
