Mar. 20--Dance, a fashion show and African-style cuisine will all be part of this year's African Night Festival put on by WVU students. WVU's African Students' Association plans the annual event which will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday in the Mountainlair Gold Ballroom. The event is part of African Week, which will also include conferences for students at the Towers Residence Halls on Wednesday and Thursday. Fabrice Yewawa, president of the African Students Association, said because of the event's popularity, it was expanded to three days instead of just one night to share the African experience with the community. "The conferences ... will be about the positive growth and future of Africa today," said Kwasi Osei-Yeboah, a committee member for the event. The African Night Festival will consist of an African-style buffet, fashion show, a group performance from the WVU African drum assembly and a performance from the Soweto Street Beat Dancers.

"Some of the earnings that we will raise during the festival will be donated to the Bartlett House Homeless Shelter. This will be to show that we are a part of this community as well," Yeboah said. Yeboah said this could be a bigger and better event than last year's, especially with the larger budget the group received this year. He said he hopes interest in the event will continue to grow. Tickets are $10 per person, but children under the age of 10 are free. Info: ticketafrica@yahoo.com or 685-9902.
