Fire Reported at Radioactive Waste Facility of Japanese Nuclear Plant

Fukui, Japan, 22 March: A fire alarm was activated at a facility for radioactive waste at Oi Nuclear Power Plant Wednesday [22 March] evening as smoke filled the facility, police said, but the plant operator said there was no radioactive leak.
Two workers were transported to a hospital after inhaling smoke, according to Kansai Electric Power Co., which runs the plant.
Firefighters and power company officials are investigating the situation. Workers who were supposed to be inside the facility have been evacuated, the police said.
The alarm was activated at around 7 p.m. at the facility for processing waste materials.
