Mar. 22--A portion of State Road A1A in Pompano Beach was closed late this afternoon after a crane fell onto a building after 5 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
The road is closed around the intersection of A1A and Northeast 7th Street in Pompano Beach. The area is east of the Pompano Beach Air Park.
Rescue workers put a ladder up to the cab of the crane to get the operator out, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King.
He was not hurt and no one else was injured.
The large crane toppled onto a building under construction and additional cranes will need to be used to move the fallen one, King said.
Authorities did not know when the road will be reopened.
