Fire alarm activated at Japan’s radioactive waste facility
TOKYO, March 22 (Xinhua) — A fire alarm was activated Wednesday evening at a facility for radioactive waste at Oi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan’s Fukui Prefecture, local news reports said.
Police said the facility was filled with smoke, and workers have been evacuated, but the plant operator said there was no radioactive leak.
According to Kansai Electric Power Co., the company runs the plant, two workers had been sent into hospital after inhaling smoke.
Firefighters and officials from the company are investigating sources of the smoke.
