Mar. 24--Firefighters determined that a malfunctioning heat pump on the roof of Beacon Container Corp. at 700 First St. in Birdsboro was the cause of heavy smoke that poured into the structure Thursday night.
Fire officials said workers inside the building noticed smoke in the building around 9:30 p.m. Firefighters from four departments searched the building for the source.
It took about 30 minutes to determine that the heat pump had malfunctioned. There was no damage to the building and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
Beacon Container makes corrugated shipping containers at its Birdsboro facility.
