Moscow, 28 March: The Russian Federal Service for the Use of Natural Resources has established evidence of oil pollution of the Yenisey river in the area of Krasnoyarsk, the Ministry of Natural Resources press service reported today.
"Inspectors from the federal service's directorate for Krasnoyarsk Territory today established evidence of oil pollution of the Yenisey river in the area of Krasnoyarsk," the report said, adding that the river bank was also polluted with petroleum products.
The inspectors discovered that the petroleum products had found their way into the river from an industrial sewer.
The federal service has investigated four major enterprises which use the sewer. "We have not as yet found any traces of petroleum product emissions at any of the enterprises," the press release said.
Samples of polluted water and soil have now been sent to the laboratory, and the extent of the damage inflicted on the environment of Krasnoyarsk is being assessed. The inspectors are continuing their search for the source of the pollution.
