Mar. 29–NORMAN — When Tyler Trott was asked by her teacher to keep a food journal, she thought it was just another homework assignment.

Little did she know she would be chosen as one of the grand prize winners in the “I Spy a Healthy Kids Day” contest conducted by Nestle Juicy Juice and Scholastic Inc.

Last fall, Juicy Juice and Scholastic teamed up to challenge kindergarten and first-grade students across the nation to track the healthy foods they ate.

Tyler, a kindergartner at Little Axe Elementary School, wrote down what she ate for three days and then submitted her journal. She was chosen as one of 10 students nationally to go to New York for Healthy Kids Day.

“It’s important to eat healthy food because it makes you strong,” Tyler said.

Tyler and her family left March 22 for New York.

Jamie Trott said she and her daughter spent the last couple of weeks studying New York and researching the places they would visit.

“The teacher in me is trying to make it a learning experience,” Trott said.

Tyler also received $500 in spending money and a $500 college savings plan.
