Former Federated Farmers president Tom Lambie reckons he picked up enough information at Te Aroha's organic dairy expo to pay for his flight from the South Island many times over.
"That's even before I follow up on a few of the products I have seen here today," Mr Lambie said on Friday.
Organiser Bill Quinn was amazed at the response from conventional farmers who, having seen organic farming's potential, were considering switching. He was convinced there would be growth in organic dairy farming.
Mr Quinn, of Paeroa-based agricultural educator BioSoils, said the best current deal for any farmer was a Fonterra initiative offering certified organic farmers seven per cent above standard payout for the first three years and 20 per cent above standard payout for the following three years.
Organic Dairy Producers' Group new chairman, Nick Collins, said the one-day expo had reinforced his convictions about organic dairy farming and the "positive contribution that organics is making to the whole dairy sector".
