Mar. 31--Starting next week, Allegiant Air is adding two more days of service from Bellingham to Las Vegas.
The two added flights will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That means flights to and from Las Vegas will be available every day except Tuesday.
"We are very pleased with the performance of the Bellingham market," Maurice J. Gallagher, the airline's president and CEO, said in a press release. "The addition of two more weekly flights will help customers in Bellingham get to the fun and excitement of Las Vegas with service nearly every day of the week. We are confident this new schedule will have great appeal."
Allegiant started service here in August 2004 with four-day-a-week service, and its flights out of Bellingham International Airport have been full or near full much of the time since. Last year, more than 28,000 people flew from Bellingham to Las Vegas on Allegiant, according to Port of Bellingham statistics.
The six-day-a-week schedule will depart Bellingham at 7:50 p.m., arriving in Las Vegas at 10:20 p.m. Flights leaving Las Vegas will depart at 4:30 p.m., arriving in Bellingham at 7:10 p.m.
Port of Bellingham Aviation Director Art Choat has said Allegiant's direct service from Bellingham has been drawing passengers from lower British Columbia as well as counties to the south, providing an alternative to the congestion at Sea-Tac and the Vancouver airport.
Allegiant's success also has helped draw the attention of other airlines.
Beginning in June, Delta Connection will begin service in Bellingham, offering twice-daily flights to Salt Lake City seven days a week.
Horizon Air, which now provides seven flights to Sea-Tac per day, recently announced the addition of an eighth flight beginning June 24.
