Apr. 11--Beacon Journal staff report

A 61-year-old Akron man died early today in a fire at a Canton Road home.

Another man was injured in the fire, according to an Akron Fire Department report.

Firefighters were called about 12:30 a.m. to the house just south of Mogadore Road. A first-floor room was in flames when they arrived.

One man was taken to Akron City Hospital, where he died a short time later. The other man, whose age was not available, also was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. His condition was not available.

Fire officials say the American Red Cross is assisting two children and their mother, who were at the home.

The deceased man's name was not released pending notification of his family.

The fire appears to have started on a couch, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Firefighters listed damage to the house at $60,000, and contents valued at $30,000 were lost.
