Apr. 19--Jacksonville residents will see some new rules with bulk and yard waste starting in July.
On Tuesday, the Jacksonville City Council approved a set of recommendations from MSW Consultants on bulky waste and brush set-out limits and fees.
The recommendations establish weekly limits on how much waste residents can set out. The waste sizes are measured by cords, which is defined as a pile of material 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet.
Limits on bulk waste are the lesser of one cord of six items per week, one cord of brush and/or limbs per week and two appliances or large metal items per week.
For bulk waste and brush, the cost of the first cord is free with basic service and $40 per cord after that.
For appliances, the first two appliances are free with basic service and $10 for each after that. The appliance fees are per trip, said City Manager Ken Hagan.
City officials say they will fine tune some elements of the plan, including making some more recommendations on set-out limits.
"I'm sure it's probably going to take six months to a year to really get this thing to where people will not only understand but accept it," Hagan said.
