GridPoint Connect Wins Green Builder Magazine's Most Innovative Product Award; Honored in Best of Show Awards at National Green Building Conference, To Be Featured in May Issue

Posted on: Tuesday, 25 April 2006, 09:01 CDT

GridPoint, Inc.(TM), a provider of intelligent energy management (IEM) appliances, today announced that GridPoint Connect(TM) has won the Most Innovative Product Award in Green Builder(R) Magazine's 2006 Best of Show Awards at the National Green Building Conference (NGBC), held in March. Made for renewable energy customers, GridPoint Connect is a grid-tied battery backup product that integrates and converts energy from solar panels into electricity that can be used immediately or stored within the product for future use. Winners will be profiled in the May issue of Green Builder Magazine.

The Best of Show winners were chosen from among NGBC exhibitors with a careful eye to the practicality and value of the product, affordability, likelihood of adoption, and environmental soundness and sustainability. The awards were judged by Green Builder Magazine's editor in chief, John D. Wagner, and editorial director Ron Jones, both well-published and widely recognized experts in environmentally sound home building products.

"Ron and I judged the award winners with a careful eye to practicality, and implicit in our choices was how likely builders are to adopt the product in common American households," said Wagner, an award-winning author of nine home-building books as well as articles published in the Journal of Light Construction, Tools of the Trade, Custom Home, Popular Science, Today's Homeowner, Newsday, and the Wall Street Journal. "These are products we believe will make money for the builder, be adopted by the homeowner without breaking the bank, and bring a lower carbon footprint to the home."

In addition to improving power reliability and providing clean backup power during outages, GridPoint Connect enables users to sell excess energy back to the utility. It can also determine the amount of energy used from solar panels versus the utility company, as well as peak usage throughout the day.

"We are delighted that Green Builder Magazine has recognized GridPoint Connect as a true innovation, a unique yet practical product that benefits builders, homeowners, and the environment," said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO of GridPoint.

Users can also log on to GridPoint Central(SM), the industry's first online energy management portal to provide customers with insight into their energy usage and the ability to automatically and intelligently manage energy in the home or business. For instance, users can choose when to run high energy-consuming appliances or adjust thermostats to offset peak energy costs. The result is an understanding of how energy costs relate to usage as well as the ability to increase energy efficiency.

GridPoint Connect has been honored previously as a finalist for Most Innovative Commercial Technology of the Year in the Platts 2005 Global Energy Awards and as a featured product in Los Angeles Magazine's DesignHouse 2005: The Green Home, which marries healthy living with great design.
