Water and Power Board of Commissioners to Review Proposed Revisions to LADWP's Solar Incentive Program
Posted on: Friday, 28 April 2006, 18:00 CDT
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Board of Commissioners will hold a special workshop on May 2 at 12 noon at the LADWP headquarters, 111 North Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles. Management will present its proposed strategy and revised guidelines for LADWP's Solar Photovoltaic Incentive Program.
The revised guidelines are designed to meet escalating requests by customers that are eager to participate in one of the largest solar electric system installation programs in the nation. The guidelines reinforce LADWP's continued commitment to solar power for the City of Los Angeles.
The proposed revisions include a performance based incentive payment directly linked to the actual efficiency of the solar photovoltaic system. In addition, the proposed guidelines for the program include two separate funding categories for residential and commercial customers to ensure a broad and equitable distribution of incentive funds.
The upcoming workshop is the next step in the process to implement the new guidelines. An open public workshop was held in February to garner community input for developing and finalizing the new guidelines. Public comments were also accepted through April 14. A number of the suggestions that were submitted by the public have been incorporated into the guidelines that will be presented to the board. At a subsequent meeting, management will present the final program guidelines to the board for consideration.
The public can find details of the new proposed Solar Photovoltaic Incentive Program guidelines on the LADWP web site. Go to www.ladwp.com, and then click Green LA.
LADWP's 10-year, $150 million solar photovoltaic buy-down incentive program, that began in 2000 and runs through June 2011, encourages residents and businesses to use clean, renewable energy by providing incentives that reduce the cost of installing solar electric systems.
The Solar Photovoltaic Incentive Program is part of the LADWP Green LA Environmental Programs that also include Energy Efficiency, Tree Planting, Green Power, and Recycling. Information on these environmental programs is available at www.ladwp.com or by calling 1-800-Green LA.
The largest municipally owned utility in the nation, the LADWP was established more than 100 years ago to provide water and electricity to meet the needs of the city's residents and businesses. LADWP currently serves more than 3.9 million people in the City of Los Angeles.
