Edmond-based saniVex Technologies named a 2004 Journal Record Innovator of the Year award

The ability to take core discoveries of others and then find new and sometimes previously unidentified applications for existing chemistry has earned saniVex Technologies a 2004 Journal Record Innovator of the Year award.

The Edmond company is a brand development house founded by Bill Towler, chief executive, and Peter Livingston, president.

We identify underperforming products and build strategies and programs to increase their performance, Livingston said. Different from a marketing firm or a distributor, we start from the base chemistry and work up developing entire new brands, market segments, user applications and even complete necessary regulatory compliance activity to enter markets with these products.

The company's first success story is a product that presently carries the company name, saniVex. The underlying base chemistry of the product is not unique in itself.

The brand strategy that has resulted in our present success arises from very unique features that we have added to the product to make it useful in areas where it previously had not been considered to have value. This has resulted in many new areas including the athletic market and child-care facilities, Livingston said. We continue to see strong interest in markets such as the travel industry where high numbers of people pass through limited places such as rest areas and travel stops. These are common areas for disease transmission and areas where public health officials, transportation/turnpike authorities and travel stop operators want to find a simple way to provide a cleaner environment for their patrons.

In fact, the saniVex disinfectant product helped reduce the medical budget of Oklahoma State University's wrestling program by almost 40 percent. The EPA-approved chemistry dramatically reduced skin infections contracted from mats, benches and other common-use surfaces in the athletic facility.

The product is available through the company Web site (www.sanivex.com) to institutional and licensed child-care centers. It soon will be available through a national distributor organization to markets where saniVex is licensed to be used.

Livingston said saniVex's plans for expansion involve moving into new markets with new identified chemistries and use methods. Our current chemistry has many additional markets not yet developed by saniVex but our long-term growth is tied to developing markets for multiple chemical products that have languished or been underdeveloped.
